Earth Day 2012 Inspiration Board

earth-day-2012-wedding-event-inspiration-board

Earth Day is April 22, 2012, and in honor of the day we created a green wedding inspiration board that is both magical and inspiring. Being green doesn’t mean being a hippy or only using recyclable material in your wedding. You can offer to donate unused food to local shelters, or opt for local vendors to lower the cost of energy used during transport. Many restaurants and food vendors now offer seasonal, farm-to-table options for menus to keep your wedding fresh and unique to your area.

DIY Idea: Handmade Chandelier

Thanks to Pinterest, we were able to find this super cute paper chandelier that’s do-it-yourself friendly! Pinterest led us to Heartland Paper’s site where we learned how to create this butterfly chandelier. We think this would be a great piece to add above a candy buffet table or guest sign-in table at your wedding or social event to up the “wow factor!” An important belief we have about events and weddings–if you’re going to do it, do it big! Just adding this diy paper chandelier will give your event a whimsical touch that will stand out in your guests’ minds. To find out how to create your own, we’ll supply the materials below and where to find instructions.

From Heartland Paper’s site:

Butterfly punch, die-cut or Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter for cutting images (We used the Silhouette to cut a 2 ½” butterfly.)- this is also a QuicKutz die that can be used in your Revolution or Cuttlebug.
Paper in desired colors- you will need enough paper to cut 136 images (we used white cardstock and clear vellum for our butterflies)
14” metal ring- you can use a metal wreath base or even a large embroidery hoop

Real Wedding: Chaldean & Mexican Decadence

This was a bright and decadent wedding! The bride is Chaldean, and from Iraqi descent, while the groom is Mexican. Normally in Chaldean culture, the groom pays for the wedding expenses, but according to Mexican customs, the bride pays–and you can definitely see the bride’s Chaldean influences throughout. Ghada wanted certain shades of yellow to be highlighted throughout the wedding, and a posh feel for the reception.

From the dress to her accessories, the bride was dripping with diamonds!

They opted to take pictures beforehand Balboa Park because it was going to be a late ceremony.

This couple wanted to do a “first look”. Some couples find this to be more intimate and relaxing than the initial moment at the ceremony in front of guests.

The couple had a Chaldean priest perform the ceremony.

For the reception, Ghada & Leo had a Euro Bar with espresso, lounge chairs, a Middle-Eastern band from San Francisco, and a belly dancer with candlebra for the grand entrance for guests to enjoy.
